Summary

Support adults on gentle wellbeing walks by offering a warm welcome, friendly conversation and a safe, inclusive space, alongside WWF staff each week.

Detailed description

As a Wellbeing Walk Volunteer, you will help deliver a safe, welcoming, and supportive walking group for adults experiencing mental health challenges. Through gentle walking, conversation and companionship, you’ll help create a calm, inclusive space where participants feel heard, connected, and supported on their recovery journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Walk - 11am -12pm. Café - 12-1pm
  • Welcoming participants: Greet people as they arrive, make everyone feel included, and help put them at ease — especially if it’s their first time attending.
  • Supporting during the walk: Walk alongside participants, offer encouragement, and help foster a calm, non-judgemental atmosphere where people feel comfortable talking.
  • Facilitating conversation and connection: Encourage gentle, supportive conversation; help participants feel heard and understood; be someone they can trust to talk to if they’re having a difficult time.
  • Ensuring safety & wellbeing: Help monitor that the walk is accessible and manageable for everyone.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking volunteers who:

  • Have empathy, kindness, and a non-judgemental approach — able to support adults experiencing a range of mental health challenges.
  • Are good listeners and comfortable talking to people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Enjoy walking and being outdoors, and are comfortable walking at a gentle pace with others.
  • Can help create a supportive, inclusive, friendly environment.
  • Are reliable and committed — ideally able to volunteer regularly (e.g. for each walk).

What You’ll Gain

  • The opportunity to make a real difference — helping people feel less isolated, more connected, and supported in their recovery.
  • A sense of purpose and meaning that comes from giving back to your community.
  • Awareness of mental health issues, great communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The chance to be part of a caring, community-focused team with a shared mission.
  • The simple joy of walking, fresh air, friendly conversation and a cuppa.

Boundaries, Requirements & Support

  • Volunteers should treat everyone with dignity, respect, and confidentiality.
  • Volunteers are not expected to provide clinical advice or professional mental health support — but to offer companionship, understanding, and a listening ear.
  • Volunteers will be provided with an induction, DBS, First Aid and Safeguarding training, and will be walking alongside a WWF Member of Staff weekly
