This new event is a great way for children with disabilities to discover sport in a safe, friendly, and welcoming environment.
Around 80 children aged 5 - 17 with a physical disability are expected to attend this brand new event, along with their parents, siblings, caregivers, or teachers. The aim is to introduce children to a wide range of inclusive sports, and to signpost them to future opportunities to take part, should they want to.
What happens at the event
Ø A variety of sports are on offer, for participants to have a go
Ø Sessions are led by qualified coaches and their assistants
Ø Participants take part in challenges across the various sports
Ø Groups of participants will transition from one sport zone to another during the day
What we would like help with
- Setting up and taking down branding and signage
- Moving sports wheelchairs and other sports equipment around the site
- Supporting coaches by picking up stray balls and other equipment during sessions, you may even be asked to participate in the sport to facilitate play!
- Supporting participants and their parents/teachers/caregivers by guiding them around the site during zone transitions
- Helping to hand out event T-shirts
- Other tasks as needed!

What to expect from your volunteer experience:
- You’ll be part of a small team of volunteers between 10 – 15 people
- You’ll be involved in a wide range of tasks and activities, from welcoming people to a venue, retrieving run-away tennis balls/shuttlecocks, to name but a few
- You’ll learn new skills such as pumping up sports wheelchair tyres, and how to take wheels on/off, helping set up courts/fields of play
- You will be the ‘face of WheelPower’ and may be asked questions throughout the day. WheelPower staff are there to help you with this, and the sports coaches are best placed to answer sport specific questions
- A warm feeling of helping to deliver an event that has a positive impact on children’s lives!
