We are looking for volunteers to promote Dementia Adventure, our mission and support services at local community events.Detailed description
We are looking for volunteers to promote Dementia Adventure, our mission and support services at local community events. All with a view to enable people living with dementia to get outdoors, connect with nature, themselves and their community, and retain a sense of adventure in their lives, in all aspects within the community. This is an ideal role for those unable to give a set commitment each week. We will always try to give plenty of notice about upcoming events.
Activities Include: ▪ Representing Dementia Adventure at local community events such as dementia and memory cafes, local dementia fairs, Women's Institute, Rotary, U3A and similar groups/organisations ▪ Where appropriate, and if felt able, giving short talks (all resources provided) to individuals and groups within the area about the work we do ▪ Engaging members of the public at these events by talking about our adventures, research, consultancy and training as well as how people can fundraise and/or volunteer for us ▪ Recording enquiries generated from the public and passing this information to the Dementia Adventure Community Engagement Team ▪ Undertaking any essential training which is in line with Dementia Adventure's policies and procedures
Skills ▪ Outgoing, friendly and happy to talk to members of the public ▪ Knowledgeable about Dementia Adventure, or eager to learn, and confident in answering people’s questions ▪ Good communication and administration skills ▪ Adaptable and reliable ▪ Good organisational skills, well prepared and willing to record number of attendees ▪ Confident and able to work independently and as part of a team ▪ Able to access Dementia Adventure resources online ▪ Confident in using technology where a talk may be using Zoom video calling ▪ Able to travel to local venues ▪ Proactive, self motivated
What we will provide to volunteers
💸 Reimbursement of costs🤝 Extra supportAbout Dementia Adventure
Supported Dementia Respite Breaks: Dementia Adventure has been offering fully supported dementia breaks for well over a decade. We understand the complex and individual needs of people living with dementia, as well as how carers can benefit from having the chance to relax and enjoy time with their loved one while someone else takes care of all the planning and background tasks.
Free online information and support sessions for family and friends: ‘Understanding Dementia Better’ and ‘Mood and Motivation’ are free, online sessions for family and friends supporting someone with dementia at home. These informal sessions offer you a chance to meet others in a similar situation to you and will help you discover small and simple steps that can make a big difference.
Training and Consultancy: As the only charity solely to focus on dementia and nature, Dementia Adventure is a sector leader in working with organisations in blue, green, health and care sectors. The team will work with you to create inclusive services, so that people with dementia can engage more with nature and have regular outdoor experiences.
Research: Dementia Adventure’s work is rooted in the latest research. We also support other organisations in their research by assisting with joint funding proposals or project ideas and by sharing relevant research or resources you have written.
