Are you passionate about making a difference for older people in Buckinghamshire? We're looking for new Trustees to join our Board.

Title:               Trustee - Voluntary role

Reports:         Chair of Board

Location:        Buckinghamshire

About us

Each year, Age UK Bucks directly supports over 5,000 older residents. Our services promote physical and mental health by providing advice and financial guidance that help people manage long-term conditions, maintain independence, and stay connected. We deliver practical home support, information and advice, help with recovery from hospital, dementia services for individuals and carers, advocacy, and companionship. For many older people across the county, we are a vital source of support.

We are recruiting for three new Trustees

Volunteers play an important and integral role within our organisation, and we are seeking to appoint three new Trustees to join our Charity Board at an exciting and pivotal time for the charity.

Becoming a volunteer Trustee at Age UK Buckinghamshire is a great way to make a positive impact on the lives of older people in your local community. You will help guide the charity’s direction, ensuring it delivers effective, inclusive support. In return, you’ll gain valuable experience in leadership and governance, develop new skills, broaden your network, and enjoy the satisfaction of contributing to a cause that makes a real difference locally.

Key requirements of the role include:

  • Strong strategic thinking and sound decision-making
  • Commitment to supporting older people
  • Collaborative leadership with excellent communication skills
  • Good understanding of governance and accountability
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and safeguarding

And we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the following areas, but we remain open to a broad range of experience and skills:

  • Finance, accountancy, and finance systems and processes
  • Commercial experience
  • Digital, data and service design
  • Local systems leadership and partnerships (local government, ICB/NHS, adult social care commissioning)
  • HR/Legal
  • Lived experience/working with older adults

We are looking for strategic and community-minded individuals with a passion for helping older people who can help strengthen our governance, help shape our future direction, and support our aim to provide high quality services for local older people.

Representing our communities

Age UK Bucks is for every older person in our county, from every community. We recognise it is incredibly important to ensure we better reflect and represent them in our staffing, volunteering and on our Trustee Board. That is why we value diversity and lived experience, and would be delighted to see potential trustees with diverse backgrounds apply. We welcome and celebrate the rainbow of diversity in our county and would greatly appreciate your help to achieve this more effectively.

Terms

This is an unpaid role with reasonable expenses reimbursed. Trustees are expected to attend Board meetings, undertake training, be willing to participate in Committees, and contribute approx 25 hours per year of meetings (mostly outside office hours) plus preparation time.

The initial Trustee commitment is for a two-year term. At the end of the term, it is usual to continue for two further terms of two years each, subject to approval - so 6 years in total.

All successful candidates will undergo an enhanced DBS (England & Wales) check and receive safeguarding training.

How to Apply:

Details of how to apply are on the Age UK Website. Please send your CV and covering letter to , including the following:

  • Your CV (maximum of three pages)
  • A supporting statement (maximum one page) outlining why the role interests you and how your skills, knowledge, and experience meet the requirements

We want our Board to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. We encourage equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace and encourage applications from our wonderful rainbow of talent in Bucks and people of all ages.
