'Listing Volunteer Roles on Volunteer Bucks is easy'

That’s the overall impression of using Volunteer Bucks from Roberta at Buckinghamshire Libraries. She and her colleagues have been using the platform since it launched in September 2024.

It is now the main way that they recruit volunteers aside from face to face contact and posters in the various libraries and occasional ads in local magazines.

“It’s not difficult.” says Roberta who says she’s not at all IT-savvy. “I started using it after taking over volunteer recruitment from my predecessor and I found the system very intuitive. The first time you list a role, you set up a template which you can adapt when you want to list another. It now only takes me half an hour – including choosing a new picture. Most of the time taken is thinking about the right words to describe the role”. Various Buckinghamshire Libraries use Volunteer Bucks as separate teams within a single umbrella organisation. Roberta encourages and helps staff in those other libraries to list their volunteer roles and there’s positive feedback from them too:

  • "I find Volunteer Bucks great for the start of the volunteering process and for the reach." - Buckingham Library

  • "We have recruited two volunteers at our library and found it easy to use." - Wendover Library

  • "I have directly recruited four volunteers and conversed with more. It is a great advertising platform". - Marlow Library

Once volunteers have made contact, the library can direct them to other pertinent information of their own website and discuss the role in more depth. The process has led to good quality volunteers being recruited, staying on and enjoying their roles at the various libraries.

Roberta concludes “I’ve recommended Volunteer Bucks to colleagues in other libraries and to my contacts in Buckinghamshire charities and am happy to do so again.
