Butterflies is a gender identity social group. We are seeking a friendly, non-judgmental, understanding and supportive volunteer Youth/Support Worker.
What we are looking for
Butterflies is a gender identity social group. It is a closed group; all young people are welcome after an informal interview with one of our youth workers. The aim of the group is to offer a safe space for anyone aged 13 – 25 who identifies as trans or non-binary or is questioning their gender. Butterflies take part in several activities including craft, cooking, games, film nights, and we also invite speakers from the LGB&T community to share their experiences.
We are seeking a friendly, non-judgmental, understanding and supportive volunteer Youth/Support Worker to join our small Butterflies staff team. The volunteer Butterflies support volunteer will need to be able to listen to young people non-judgmentally and build professional, trusting relationships with them so they can support their current needs. Butterflies is a highly confidential project, and we would need you to sign a confidentiality agreement.
The skills you need
- Able to uphold Youth Concern’s values in your role
- Non-judgmental attitude towards gender identity
- Good verbal communication skills
- Have a positive attitude with a proactive and flexible approach to your work
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Confident to deal with tense situations if they arise
- A working knowledge of safeguarding and professional boundaries (training provided)
- Experience working with young people (desirable)
- Good written communication skills (desirable)
- Proven IT skills (desirable)
