We are seeking a dynamic individual to take the position of Chair of Trustees, playing a crucial role in steering the direction of our Museum.

We are looking for a person with experience in strategic thinking who loves working with, leading and managing people. We need a skilled negotiator who can advocate for the Museum in discussions with our funders, particularly Buckinghamshire Council and local community forums, as we build a sustainable future.

The successful candidate will join a Board of 11 local members with a wide range of experience and passion for WHAT and its purposes. The Chair will be working closely with the Museum Director to lead the Museum together.

The Chair is a member of the Board of Trustees with specific responsibilities for:

  • Leading the Board on its responsibilities for strategic direction
  • Upholding the charity’s good governance
  • Arranging and chairing Board meetings
  • Running the Annual General Meeting and other events
  • Working in partnership with the Museum Director
  • Supporting good relations between trustees, staff, volunteers and the general public
  • Advocacy, engagement and connections with partner organisations
  • Financial responsibility

The new Chair should be prepared to serve a full 4-year term devoting an average three days a month to the role in addition to the 8 hours monthly expected of all Trustees.
