As Assistant Cook, you’ll be right at the heart of the evening helping prepare and serve a hot two-course meal for up guests, volunteers, and staff.
What you’ll do
- Arrive at 6.00pm to get started in the kitchen.
- Work alongside the Cook to prepare the evening meal, often liaising with them in advance and prepping some food at home.
- Help serve the meal at 8.00pm.
- Support with clearing up afterwards and making sure the kitchen is left clean and tidy.
Training and support
You don’t need formal qualifications, just a willingness to help. The Cook will lead on planning and supervising, and you’ll learn on the job with plenty of support.
You need to complete general night shelter training.
Free allergen and Food Hygiene training is available on request but is not mandatory.
