We are looking for compassionate, reliable Family Befrienders, to offer friendly support, a listening ear and practical encouragement to families.

Family Befriender Volunteer - Help Families Feel Supported, Connected and Valued

Could you be the person who helps a family feel that they're not facing everything alone?

At The Restore Project, we believe every family deserves to feel supported, understood and valued. When families face difficult circumstances, the right support at the right time can make a lasting difference.

We're looking for caring, approachable and reliable volunteers to join us as Family Befrienders, offering friendship, encouragement and a listening ear to families who may be experiencing challenges in their lives.

As a Family Befriender, you could help a parent feel more confident, encourage a family to recognise their own strengths, or simply provide a safe, supportive space where they feel heard without judgement. You may also help families feel more connected to their community and, where appropriate, signpost them to other sources of support.

What might you do?

  • Build a positive, trusting relationship with a family through regular contact.
  • Offer a friendly listening ear and emotional encouragement.
  • Help parents and carers recognise their strengths and build confidence.
  • Encourage positive family relationships and wellbeing.
  • Support families to feel more connected to their local community.
  • Help families identify relevant services and support when needed, following guidance from our team.
  • Work alongside The Restore Project to help families feel valued, respected and empowered.

Who are we looking for?

You don't need to be a qualified family support worker or have all the answers. We welcome people who are compassionate, patient, dependable and genuinely want to make a difference.

Experience of supporting families, parenting, community work or volunteering can be helpful, but what matters most is your attitude, willingness to learn and ability to listen without judgement.

You'll need to respect confidentiality, maintain appropriate boundaries and follow our safeguarding guidance. You'll receive appropriate induction, guidance and ongoing support, so you won't be expected to manage difficult situations alone.

Why get involved?

Being a Family Befriender is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in someone's everyday life. You could help a parent feel less isolated, give a family the confidence to seek support, or help someone recognise that they have strengths and options they may not have seen before.

Our work is guided by our seven values: Resilience, Respect, Responsibility, Resourcefulness, Role Models, Reliability and Relatability.

If you believe that small acts of kindness, genuine relationships and early support can make a big difference, we'd love to hear from you.

Join The Restore Project and help us build stronger, more connected families and communities - one relationship at a time.
