A volunteer is required to fulfil the deputy editorial role, preparing articles for the readers and joining the reader team. Training and support provided.

The role entails:

  • Supporting and deputising for the team Editor and participating as a reader in the team.
  • The editor's role is to:
    • Reviews Bucks Free Press on Fridays and other local news sources and selects articles likely to be of interest to our listeners.
    • Copies the articles ready for the readers
    • Leads the recording team of readers, recordist and copyists
    • Ensures availability of team members for recording
    • Needs to be a good organiser, good with people and an eye for interesting articles
    • Maximum time commitment is once a month for several hours on a Friday preparing plus the Friday evening recording session

If you would like to try this out, you will work alongside one of the experienced editors to deliver a recording session.

If you like it, you will find this is a fulfilling role within a team of committed volunteers providing our very vulnerable listeners a window on what is going on in their local communities.

About South Bucks Talking News

We are dedicated to bringing local news to those in the southern part of Buckinghamshire who are blind, visually impaired or otherwise unable to read the news through a disability. Our teams record articles every week from the Bucks Free Press Group and other local journals covering southern Buckinghamshire. The recordings are copied onto small USB memory sticks and posted on Saturday in specially designed plastic envelopes to recipients, who can then listen at their convenience at home. The service is entirely free to listeners.
