Human Resources Trustee: Provides strategic HR and culture leadership, ensures compliance, strong people systems, and supports a positive, effective workforce.
TRUSTEE ROLE DESCRIPTION – HUMAN RESOURCES
Role of the Human Resources Trustee to the Board
To maintain effective governance of the organisation’s people & organisational culture affairs, ensuring its human resource management policies, processes and procedures are compliant with all relevant legislation and regulation and ensuring that the charity has a fit for purpose approach to human resource delivery and a positive beneficiary and impact focused culture.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic
- To assist and advise in the formation of the Charity’s strategy with particular regard to ensuring that the Charity has the appropriate policies and procedures to effectively determine and utilise its human resources.
- To provide strategic leadership in the development of the Charity’s organisational culture and HR strategy.
- To guide the charity’s HR approach balancing compliance, affordability and our intention to be an employer of choice for our sectors regionally.
2. Compliance
- To ensure that the charity has appropriate policies, processes and controls in place to manage its human resources (employed and volunteer) in a legally compliant manner.
- To ensure that the board receives Board receives appropriate monitoring information to enable assurance that required compliance is being achieved across the organisation.
- To work in close partnership with the Director of Finance and Operations and the Head of People in executing their responsibilities and achieving their goals.
3. Systems
- To ensure that the Charity has an appropriate systems and processes in place for the effective and efficient management of its human resources.
4. Processes
- To ensure that the processes and practices of the Charity’s Human Resources/People function are aligned to the charity’s strategic objective through monitoring, scrutiny and constructive challenge.
5. Governance
- To ensure that the Board is aware of its legal duties and responsibilities and the need to comply with all legislation.
- To be a full member of the People and Resources Sub-Committee and other sub-committees as appropriate.
Person Specification
- CIPD qualified
- Evidencable experience of leading a Human Resources/People function within a medium sized organisation (£10-20million annual turnover, ~250 employees) with board level accountability
- Evidencable experience of current continuing professional development and demonstrable knowledge of current legislation and regulation.
- Experience of working strategically with a medium sized volunteer operation (~700 volunteers) is desirable.
