Digital & Information Systems Trustee: Ensures strong data governance, compliant systems, cybersecurity oversight, and strategic leadership in digital services.
TRUSTEE ROLE DESCRIPTION – DIGITAL & INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Role of the Digital & Information Systems Trustee to the Board To maintain effective governance of the organisation’s digital and IS affairs, ensuring its data management policy, processes and procedures are compliant with all relevant legislation and regulation and ensuring that the charity has an effective strategy for the use and management of data and information systems.
Key Responsibilities
Through a process of support and constructive challenge to employed staff and volunteers of the charity the role holder is expected to fulfil the following responsibilities on behalf of the Board of Trustees.
1. Strategic
- To assist and advise in the formation of the Charity’s strategy with particular regard to ensuring that the Charity has the appropriate information systems and digital resources to deliver the strategy.
- To advise the board on risks, opportunities and trends in the domain of data and information systems.
2. Data
- To ensure that the charity has appropriate policies, processes and controls in place to manage its data in a legally compliant manner.
- To work in close partnership with the Director of Finance and Operations in executing their responsibilities and achieving their goals.
3. Information systems
- To ensure that the Charity has an appropriate information systems strategy, to guide data management and utilisation, and approaches to system procurement and integration.
- To ensure that the Charity consistently monitors the performance of its systems and processes to ensure realisation of benefits and return on investment.
- To provide advice and guidance to the Director of Finance and Operations with the appointment, monitoring and review of external IS related contractors, e.g. IT support, DPO service provider.
- To ensure that all equipment and assets are adequately maintained and accounted for.
4. Governance
- To ensure that the Board is aware of its legal duties and responsibilities and the need to comply with all legislation.
- To ensure that the charity has appropriate controls and safeguards in place to effectively manage cybersecurity risks.
- To ensure that all data, digital and information system policies and procedures and the appointment of contracted IT support are reviewed on a regular basis.
- To be a full voting member of the Finance Sub-Committee, and other sub committees as appropriate.
Person specification
- Evidencable experience of senior Information Systems management role in an organisation of at least similar complexity.
- Demonstrable understanding of applicable legislation and regulation.
- Evidencable experience of managing/overseeing cyber security and risk mitigation within digital and information systems.
- Demonstrable experience of developing and implementing enterprise data and information systems strategies is highly desirable.
