Summary

Can you offer support, through a listening ear and be a positive influence in a client’s life to help build self-esteem and confidence?

Detailed description

Connection Support has a range of services providing support to people at risk of homelessness or on the edge of needing social care.

We work with people made vulnerable through debt, mental health issues, substance misuse, learning disability, and physical disabilities.

Volunteers play a key role in the provision of vital services to our clients.

Do you have 2-3 hours a week to give to a client experiencing loneliness or mental health issues? (For a mutual agreement of time and locations that meet clients’ needs)

Will you enable our clients to benefit from knowing someone is there to listen, be a friend, and check in on their well-being?

Could you prevent loneliness and isolation in your community and become a befriender?

If you can answer ‘yes’ to these questions, then we would love to hear from you!

Key responsibilities

Your role will include, but is not restricted to the following tasks:

Contact the client(s) you are supporting on a regular basis as agreed. This can be in a variety of settings, e.g. client’s home, or in the community (via face-to-face meetings, phone or video calls)

Carry out activities as agreed with the client and Connection Support

Help clients rediscover social skills and confidence and engage in activities within the community

About Connection Support

At Connection Support our team of staff members and volunteers work alongside people to overcome life’s challenges. Why? Because our mission is to support everyone in our society to become safely and sustainably housed and live as independently as possible. And to do that we provide a wide range of services which offer support with homelessness, housing support, mental health, independent living, preventing isolation, parental mentoring, refugee resettlement and social prescribing.

We recognise that every human being encounters challenges in life and we’re here to support anyone who finds themselves in a time of difficulty, either through directly offering our support, or helping them to find the right support elsewhere.

We focus on you as an individual, to understand your circumstances, abilities and challenges so we can begin to support and equip you to build a better life. You tell us what you want to achieve, your goals and aspirations and we will work with you, providing practical and emotional support to help you to build the skills and confidence to deal with the ups and downs of life.

By working collaboratively with other organisations, we provide tailored support and advice to a range of adults (young and old) and families in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Milton Keynes, ensuring we achieve the best outcome for all our clients.
