We’re looking for a Volunteer Community Musician to support music therapy group sessions at the Epilepsy Society on Mondays from 11am - 12.30pm.
The Epilepsy Society supports people living with epilepsy and complex neurological conditions. Music sessions offer residents a supportive, engaging space where music is used to encourage communication, movement, emotional expression, and wellbeing.
These community music sessions are designed to support communication, cognitive engagement, motor skills, and emotional regulation, while also helping residents manage anxiety and behavioural challenges.
Sessions use accessible, flexible music-making to meet residents where they are, responding to varying physical, cognitive, and emotional needs.
You will support the music therapist to help create a calm, safe, and motivating environment where residents are encouraged to engage through sound, rhythm, movement, and shared musical experiences.
What You’ll Do
- Take part in inclusive group music-making with residents
- Support activities that encourage communication, movement, and cognitive engagement
- Help create a calm, safe, and emotionally supportive atmosphere
- Use music to help motivate participation and reduce anxiety
- Support residents alongside experienced staff, responding sensitively to individual needs
- Assist the session lead in adapting music activities to support behavioural and emotional regulation
Who This Role Is For
- Confident musicians who play an instrument (any genre or style welcome)
- People interested in community wellbeing
- Friendly, patient, and reliable volunteers
- Those comfortable supporting adults with complex needs
- Individuals able to work alongside a music therapist
What You’ll Gain
- The opportunity to make a meaningful difference through music
- Experience in community music within a neurological and disability-informed setting
- Insight into how music can support communication, movement, and emotional wellbeing
- Support from a caring, experienced member of staff
If you’d like to use music to support communication, movement, and emotional wellbeing for people living with epilepsy and complex needs, we’d love to hear from you.
