Digital Technology Volunteer

Confident with smartphones or tablets? Want to help others get connected?

As a Digital Technology Volunteer, you’ll show blind and partially sighted people how everyday technology can make life easier — from staying in touch with family to shopping online or using accessible apps. Your patience, encouragement, and know-how can open a world of independence for someone else.

Where?

Across Buckinghamshire (1-2-1 or group sessions).

What you will be doing:

  • Helping people use tablets, smartphones, and other devices
  • Showing how accessibility features and apps can support daily life
  • Building confidence through friendly guidance and encouragement
  • Supporting members in person or in small group sessions

What skills and experience are needed?

  • Confident user of smartphones and tablets (no expert knowledge required!)
  • Good communicator — patient, clear, and encouraging
  • Friendly, approachable, and understanding
  • Willing to support people at their own pace

What will you gain from the role?

  • The joy of helping someone become more independent
  • New skills and experiences to boost your CV
  • A sense of purpose and achievement
  • Experience working with people with sight loss
  • Meeting new people and being part of your community

What support will be given?

  • Induction and training (including sight loss awareness and sighted guiding)
  • Ongoing support and development opportunities
  • Out-of-pocket expenses covered
  • Support from your Office & Service Delivery Manager and Volunteer Manager
