Befriender
Could you be a friendly face and a listening ear?
As a Befriender, you’ll offer companionship to blind and partially sighted people who may feel isolated or lonely. Sometimes it’s as simple as having a cuppa and a chat, other times it might be a walk, a trip to a local café, or a visit to somewhere of interest. What matters most is the friendship and connection you bring.
Where & when?
· In the client’s home or out in the local community
· Visits arranged at a time that suits both you and the client
What you will be doing:
· Visiting members at home for a friendly chat and companionship
· Supporting them to take part in activities they enjoy — such as refreshments out, local trips, or short walks
· Building a trusting, reliable relationship over time
· Helping reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation
What skills and experience are needed?
· Caring, friendly, and patient nature
· Good listening and communication skills
· Reliable and understanding
· Flexible approach to visits
· Able to commit for at least six months

Criminal Record Check Information (DBS):
This role requires an Enhanced DBS check (working with adults at risk), as it involves one-to-one support.
