How to reply to messages on Volunteer Bucks

Have you found a volunteering opportunity that looks right for you or are you wanting to ask a question to an organisation about a role?
Whether you’re a volunteer getting in touch with an organisation or an organisation responding to a potential volunteer, it’s important to know how Volunteer Bucks messaging works.
Volunteer Bucks, our free volunteering platform offers a function where you can click on the "I'm interested" button to make initial contact with the organisation.
How does the messaging work?
When a volunteer clicks “I’m interested”, a message is sent to the organisation through the Volunteer Bucks messaging system.
The organisation will receive an email letting them know they have a new message to read. A separate conversation is created on Volunteer Bucks, where the volunteer and organisation can communicate.
From then on:
- The volunteer and organisation can both add messages to the conversation.
- Whenever a new message is added, the other person receives an email notification.
- The email includes a preview of the new message.
- The email also contains a link to Volunteer Bucks.
- To reply to that message, you need to use the "reply" button the Volunteer Bucks messaging system.
It is important that you do not reply to the email notification as that will send your reply to the admin team in Volunteer Bucks and so won't be seen by the person it is meant for.
Instead, use the ‘Reply’ button within the Volunteer Bucks messaging system. The link in the email notification will take you to the correct conversation.
If an email reply does come through to the Volunteer Bucks admin team, we will contact the sender and explain how to reply through the messaging system. However, this can create an unnecessary delay when a volunteer and organisation may be keen to get started.
Using Volunteer Bucks messaging on a mobile phone
If you are using Volunteer Bucks on a mobile phone, you may sometimes find that the “Contact Volunteer Bucks” button gets in the way when you are trying to reply to a message.
If this happens:
- Tap “Contact Volunteer Bucks” to open the options.
- Tap it again to minimise it to a yellow dot.
- You should then be able to see and use the “Reply” button.
